Jumping to conclusions is what many people on the Internet do best. A large number of people have been speculating that the parents killed Jon Benet. Now there will be speculation as to whether or not the guy confessing to killing her is the real killer or not.

Man, 41, Arrested in Thailand

An American man arrested in Bangkok in connection with the 1996 death of JonBenet Ramsey told reporters this morning that he was with the 6-year old when she died but that her death was “an accident.”

“I loved JonBenet. She died accidentally,” John Mark Karr, 41, told a scrum of reporters as he was led away by Thai law enforcement authorities in Bangkok. Asked if he was innocent, he replied “no.” He offered only “no comment” when asked for further details.

Karr, a slight, youthful-looking former school teacher, looked dazed but composed as he was pelted with questions.

Thai police chief Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul said Karr told investigators he committed “second-degree murder. . . . He said it was unintentional. He said he was in love with the child. She was a pageant queen.”

Ann Hurst, Department of Homeland Security attache at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, said at a news conference that Karr will be returned to Colorado within the next week and will face charges of first-degree murder, felony murder, kidnapping and sexual assault.

The unsolved murder of the girl has been a decade-long media obsession featuring at its height nightly talk-show arguments between factions of commentators, some of whom openly blamed one or the other or both of Ramsey’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey even as others insisted the killer was still at large. The non-stop coverage continued last night and this morning.

Police said Karr admitted to the killing after he was arrested Wednesday at his downtown Bangkok apartment by Thai and American authorities.

Karr was arrested on sex charges unrelated to JonBenet’s slaying after several months of investigation, officials said. Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy said investigators from her office were heading to Thailand to question the suspect and bring him to Colorado.

Patsy Ramsey died of cancer in June but was told before her death that an arrest might be imminent, her husband said yesterday.

“Patsy was aware that authorities were close to making an arrest in the case,” Ramsey said in a statement, “and had she lived to see this day, would no doubt have been as pleased as I am with today’s development almost 10 years after our daughter’s murder.”

Ramsey expressed the family’s “gratitude” to investigators who worked on the case for nearly a decade.

Lin Wood, the Ramseys’ lawyer, would not say whether any connection existed between Karr and the victim’s parents. He did note that Karr, like the Ramseys, had lived in suburban Atlanta.

GRAPEVINE — A Grapevine police investigation of the slaying of a 19-year-old truck-stop prostitute will be featured this weekend on TV’s America’s Most Wanted — the same show that led them to a suspect in her slaying.

The follow-up episode will air at 8 p.m. Saturday on the Fox network.

Casey Jo Pipestem of Oklahoma City was beaten, raped and strangled; her body was found in a Grapevine creek bed in late January 2004. Police believe that her death was one in a series of truck-stop killings nationwide.

The Rest Of The Story

The TV show America’s Most Wanted will revisit the death of an Oklahoma woman whose body was found two years ago in Grapevine. Casey Jo Pipestem was last seen Jan. 28, 2004, at a truck stop on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma City. Three days later, the 19-year-old prostitute’s nude body was found in Big Bear Creek just off State Highway 360 in Grapevine. She had been strangled. On Aug. 12, the show will air a follow-up episode to a serial murder investigation first profiled in June 2005, said Grapevine police Sgt. Bob Murphy. Tips from the 2005 program led officers to Neshoba County, Miss. There, investigators interviewed a jailed murder suspect, John Robert Williams, who said he had some involvement in Ms. Pipestem’s death. Police believe Mr. Williams and his girlfriend, Rachel Cumberland, may have been involved in a string of prostitute slayings.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) — Houston’s FBI office has placed the fugitive daughter of a deceased Utah polygamist on the agency’s “most wanted” list after getting a tip about the woman from a relative in prison.

Jacqueline Tarsa LeBaron is wanted in connection with four 1988 murders in Houston and Irving, Texas, according to a wanted poster on the agency’s Web site. She’s been a fugitive since 1992.

A telephone message left by The Associated Press with the Houston FBI office was not returned Saturday.

LeBaron is a daughter of Ervil LeBaron, the former leader of the Church of the Lamb of God, a polygamist sect with enclaves in Mexico.

A former Westport contractor who left a trail of customer complaints and headaches for local building officials has made the list of fugitives highlighted by “America’s Most Wanted” television show.

Ester LeClair, 44, is wanted for issuing bad checks, assault, larceny, and failure to appear, according to a profile of the Brazilian native on the program’s latest edition.

Westport building officials said all her projects had problems with construction practices and techniques, including an office building at 21 Charles St., in the Saugatuck area.

U.S. MARSHALS Track and Arrest Violent Fugitive Albert Montanez, Jr. from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lorain, Ohio

The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in coordination with the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force Eastern Wisconsin and the Lorain Police Department apprehended violent fugitive Albert F. Montanez, Jr. Montanez, a 20 year old white male, was wanted in connection to an Attempted Homicide which occurred on April 18, 2006.

Montanez and an associate allegedly calculated the murder of the victim on April 18, 2006. Montanez and his associate lured the victim and the victim’s friend into giving Montanez and his associate a ride to an unknown location. During the ride, Montanez and his associate, using knives, attempted to decapitate both victims who were seated in the front seat of a car. Both victims are recovering from there injuries.

After a lengthy investigation, Montanez was tracked by Deputy U.S. Marshals into the greater Lorain, Ohio area where the fugitive was located at 1794 E. 33rd St., in Lorain, OH. Montanez was arrested without incident.
